Most of us have the jist on contouring, but what about this “baking” technique? What is it anyway? Well, just like applying highlighter to the high points of your face, baking takes it to a whole other level.
According to Cosmopolitan, the drag community has been “baking” for years! Instead of swiping matte powder under your eyes, on your forehead, or your chin, you pack the translucent powder onto those points and allow it to sit. This is a good time to finish applying makeup on the rest of your face or grabbing a quick snack before heading out the door. Your body heat causes the powder to set your foundation and leaves a flawless finish. Just like you want your cheekbone nice and chiseled with bronzer, the packed powder will leave your under eyes, forehead, and chin nice and bright!
If you don’t know the basics of contouring and highlighting, no worries! Look in the mirror and take a look at where the light hits your face. Those are the areas you want to highlight. Your cheekbones, temples, sides of your nose, and your jawline are all areas you want to contour.
Contouring gives your face dimension, instead of looking like a flat plane. AND if momma didn’t bless you with high cheekbones, you can fake it til you make it with a good bronzing and highlighting powder!

These are just three headlines I found concerning the hottest health topic of 2016 thus far: COCONUT OIL!
What is all the buzz about? And why all of the sudden? After seeing these headlines on Facebook, Twitter and almost every other social media outlet out there, I decided to do a little research myself. Through my research, I found this crazy article on wellnessmama.com titled, “101 Uses for Coconut Oil.” Below, I’ve listed the first 20 to catch your attention!
In cooking as a great oil with a high smoke point. Great for baking, stir-frys or as a dairy free replacement to butter.
Sazan Barzani has a FUN & educational video on “10 Uses for Coconut Oil.”
It seriously blows my mind that it can be used in SO MANY WAYS! Brb, time to go buy some!
I also found out that this magic ingredient has been seen as “unhealthy” for the past three decades! WHAT?! Something doesn’t add up here…
high in saturated fat
1 tablespoon of coconut oil is high in calories
When used for weight loss, coconut oil should be used in moderation.
stay away from “partially hydrogenated” oils (TRANS FAT!)
I’d say if you plan on consuming coconut oil, for the purpose of saturated fat, do some research on foods that counteract and reduce the amount of LDL cholesterol. It’s a win-win situation! Read more about the pros and cons of coconut oil HERE!
Before trying something new, definitely weigh out your options. Be an expert on the subject, so you can teach others! If you have more pros/cons to add, comment below or share them with us on social media ( @creativeimages ).
Coconut oil is quickly taking over in the kitchen and in the beauty industry. It can pretty much replace a lot of the common ingredients and beauty products that you use on a daily basis.
Not only is it antibacterial, and cleans your hair, skin and nails without removing any of the moisture that you need, but it also lacks the harsh chemicals that are in the more common skin and hair products.
This oil has a lot of beauty benefits and I am going to give you the quick highlights.
No. 1 Makeup Remover- Coconut oil has proven to be a great makeup remover, taking even the hardest of waterproof mascaras with it. The majority of makeup is oil-based and can easily remove even the most waterproof and long lasting makeup. You can massage a small amount over your face and wash it away with a warm washcloth. Mmmm lavishing!
No. 2 Cuticle Oil- No more ‘hand hiding’. Using coconut oil as a cuticle softener will strengthen your nails and hydrates the sensitive skin of your cuticles, making your hands look younger. Add a little to your fingers and then massage it onto your cuticles.
No. 3 Lip Balm- Using coconut oil as a lip balm, is one of the least common uses. It makes your lips very full and soft and gives them a natural shine, making it like a lip gloss and balm all at the same time. The coconut flavor gives you the organic assurance that it’s safe to put on your lips.
No. 4 Shaving Cream- If you have any razor burns or any post shaving irritation that occurs when you use shaving cream, then it might be the best time to change your shaving routine. Coconut oil actually protects your skin from the razor while you are shaving and offers you a lot of moisture. Reduce the cuts and get softer legs!
No. 5 Exfoliating Scrub- A coconut oil scrub is the best because most recipes only require two ingredients: coconut oil and a little brown sugar. Side not..it’s also edible!
No. 6 Deep Conditioner- Coconut oil has been used as an all-natural deep hair conditioner for a very long time, so this use is nothing new. If your hair needs shine and moisture, then apply a small amount of oil to dry, unwashed hair, wrap it up in a shower cap or towel, and sleep on it. The next morning, washing it out in the shower will definitely help revert your hair back to looking healthy after the harshness of the cold, winter air. Make sure that you use a shampoo during the wash in order to remove any excess oils from your hair.
No. 7 Hair Oil- At room temperature, coconut oil is a creamy solid consistency, and it turns into a liquid when it is heated to around 75 degrees Fahrenheit. When you’re in the shower, add a little bit of coconut oil after shampooing and then twist your hair into a bun. Repeating this a few times throughout the month will leave your hair luscious and thick.
No. 8 Facial Cleanser- Just like it makes for a great makeup remover, coconut oil is a great facial cleanser. Remember, it is antibacterial will clean your face without removing the natural oils that you need in order to maintain the moisture in your skin.
No. 9 Body Lotion- As a solid, coconut oil has a creamy texture that makes it great to use as a light moisturizer all over your body. Applying a quarter size amount to your skin after you get out the shower will help it absorb into your skin and leave it soft and smooth. If you want a little bit of a massage mix, add a bit of peppermint oil or lavender oil.
Like…excuse me while I head to Whole Foods and buy all the organic coconut oil out there!

OK, people. We all know it’s the new year and you probably want to find a new hobby, eat healthier and get a life plan in place. This is A LOT to take in and get organized!
Many of you are currently in beauty school or at least have thought about it. Beginning the path to be a cosmetologist, aesthetician, or nail technician is a huge step. It takes preparation, thought, and determination. This career can do, really, whatever you want it to do for you. Only YOU can make the best of it.
So I’m here to try my best to help you get a little more organized when it comes to being your best at beauty school and getting your life in general, a little more organized.
I’m going to start by telling you 5 reasons why we FAIL at organization:
We take on too much
We fail to plan
We plan too much
We ignore broken systems
We forget to reset
Abby, from “Just a girl and her blog,” explains more in depth about these problems in her blog here. She also notes that, in our heads, we think that organization is done in a week…when in reality, it’s a process. It takes time to tell ourselves to keep up with organizational habits and avoid the 5 points above that allow us to get off track..
So where do you start?
Start with one thing at a time. What really matters? Write down what steps you need to take to reach this goal…A.K.A. PLAN IT OUT. Be specific and give yourself deadlines!
Once you have your plan and some goals on that paper, begin to take the first steps. If we’re talking about beauty school, research the BEST campuses in your area. Who provides top-notch education? Who will get you the most clients upon graduating? What certifications do they offer?
Once you find the right campus for you, what course will you take? Hair? Nails? Skin? Follow your passion and make a decision. What are you most interested in? Again, write down some of your talents and this will give you a clear picture of what your calling is. Be sure to visit the college if you think that it is the right fit. Then, take the bulls by the horn and apply!
Before your first day, you will need to have your tools for success ready to go. It’s important to have these things on hand to ensure each day goes smoothly and you make the best of it! No one likes a bad day because they forgot their planner!
Here’s a fun video from EMiGallx0x0 on what she has in her beauty school bag:
The Target Dollar Spot also has some cute journals, planners, and note cards that you definitely want to get your hands on!
These tools are here to help you succeed. Don’t overwhelm yourself. If something isn’t working, change it! Don’t be afraid of change. Change is inevitable, especially in the beauty industry.
If you feel like you’re getting too overwhelmed with life, reset. Take an hour at the beginning of the week to remember what the end goal is and what REALLY matters. If you “see” yourself receiving your manicurist certification, the universe will bring it to you (with hard work of course)! Stay positive and motivated and I PROMISE good things will come to you!

Since it’s officially the start of the New Year, let the New Year’s Resolutions BEGIN! If you want to change up your look a bit or do something good for your skin, I have a whole list of challenges for you to try in 2016!
TREAT YOURSELF TO A SPA DAY— your skin will thank you for removing all of the dead skin cells from 2015. It is NEVER too early to take care of your skin. There are countless health benefits and offer an array of day spa services: aromatherapy oil wrap, arctic algae wrap, hyro-therapy treatments, mud therapy body mask, and more! Grab a girlfriend and rejuvenate with a relaxing spa treatment in the salon. You won’t regret it!
FIND & BUY YOUR PERFECT SHADE OF LIPSTICK— play up your pout with a color that will make you look and feel fabulous. There’s just something about wearing lipstick that can make you feel like Miranda Priestly from The Devil Wears Prada. If you have a new date or have a super important business deal, wear your new fave shade and werk it. Be sure to put a layer of chap stick on before applying your lipstick. It helps the application go on much more smooth and prevents creasing! Listen to some of Andrea’s favorites:
GO NATURAL OR WILD— cater your precious tendrils to a complete makeover! We predict that the rainbow trend will continue to live on in 2016: pastel pink, blue, purple, etc. Heck, even the grey/silver trend is HAWT and is here to stay for a long while. Depending on how you left 2015, go for a fun, dramatic hair color for 2016. If you want to stay a little on the safer side, try an ombre, balayage, or even add babylights to the ends of your hair. Each technique can be worked up to a more dramatic look, so if you decide to change it up even more, there’s plenty of room for it! Here are some of our celeb faves:
GET INSPIRED — so what kind of clothes are predicted to be seen on the streets in the spring of 2016 you ask? We’ll refer to the fashion experts for this one. Justine Carreon and Nikki Ogunnaike created an article on elle.com: “A Comprehensive Fashion Guide to Spring 2016 Fashion Trends.” Now, the styles they’ve put out there are super HIGH fashion…and probably not something I would wear for an every day look! But hey, at least we can pick up some inspiration!!
Comfy shoes are trending. These babies are called, “The Flat Mule,” according to elle.com >>
As these shoes do look somewhat comfy…they also look a tad weird. I’m super anxious to see if all of are will actually start wearing these this year!
Next up, a little ***TREND ALERT*** > PAPERBAG WAISTS. This is when you wear over-sized pants or a skirt, then use a belt to make it tight around your waist. The writers at elle.com suggested wearing a tight top to offset the fullness / bagginess of your bottom half. What do you guys think?!
The last spring 2016 style we will show off are these funky new hand bags. They are called, “The Half Moon Bag.” Everyone is SWOONING over these shaped bags and putting away their bucket purses. Now this is a trend I can definitely support!
Whew! After reading that article, I am all ready to get my new look started for 2016!
So welcome the New Year with some fun changes! Share some of your resolutions with us on social media; we would love to hear what you have planned! Tag us in your photos using the hashtag: #thatsthebeautyofit, so we can see how well you’re working your new skin, hair, and pout!
