How to Style Your Hair in a Crown Braid

How-To Crown Braid

13 Easy Easter Brunch Hairstyles- Brit + Co

I can still remember the first time I learned how to french-braid. I was so excited to finally be able to do my own hair. It was one of my favorite things to do with my friends at sleepovers, “I’ll braid your hair if you do mine!” I find it so funny how it was at the center of my life for a brief period of time and now, it’s just something I know how to do. BUT it’s definitely a skill worth having for those days when you’re messy bun just isn’t cutting it. You know, when it leans to one side, isn’t thick enough, or just floppy.

Trends come and go, but the braid is a classic hairstyle. There are several types of different braids that allow us to change our look throughout an entire week, if we wanted! Maybe a whole month, if you’re up for the challenge! Did you know that the french-braid actually originated in Africa? It’s not French at all!

In order to instruct you on how to style your hair in a crown braid, you must master the art of french-braiding first. That’s step 1. Here is a short and to-the-point video tutorial from The beauty Department. The model is the beautiful Lauren Conrad. Watch it below!

The most important part of this hairstyle is making sure you have smooth hair. You can still make it a tad messy, but go easy with the teasing and hairspray. We don’t want too many fly-aways. This is a great hairstyle for dirty hair, too. After all, we want our hair as healthy as can be, so a few less washings throughout the week is marvelous! It aids in hair growth and allows your hair to absorb its natural oils. AND once you make a good habit of not washing your hair as often, your hair actually adapts to the new schedule. Sounds crazy, right? IT’S TRUE! Just be patient and you’ll notice that your hair doesn’t drench itself in oil after one day of not washing it. Used to happen to me all the time!!

Anyways…let’s create this crown braid shall we!?

  1. Section off the front pieces of your hair. Nothing too big, just small sections. Take your flat iron and very gently wave those pieces. You don’t want tight curls, just a soft wave.  This also helps, keep them separated from the rest of your hair.
  2. Start a french-braid a couple inches from the top  of your ear. Create a part where you want it to start and then flip the excess hair to the other side of your head.
  3. Keep braiding around the back of your head. Go slow and steady, so that each section of hair is the same thickness. It can look a little strange if one section is thicker than the other two. TRUST ME! Use your best judgement, here.
  4. Once you have reached the other side of your head, take that section of hair we had flipped earlier, and flip it back to it’s original side. We don’t want to mix that in with this braid, yet.
  5. Continue braiding up along the front of your face using the remaining pieces of your hair until the braid is completely around your head. The last part of your braid (front sections of your head that we did NOT save for last) should be bobby pinned underneath the rest of the braid. Make sure to conceal it nicely, and then you can start pulling the crown-braid a part (ever so gently) to make it appear bigger.
  6. Finish off with a good texture spray and you’re done! Try the Amika Un.Done Texture Spray. It smells so good!!!

Skin Care Secrets You NEED To Know

Skincare Secrets You Need To Know

There’s nothing like struggling to clear a stubborn break out. It seems like a long road in a dark tunnel trying everything to get rid of it. And then, there comes that day when you wake up from a good night’s sleep, look in the mirror, and notice…NO TROUBLE SPOTS! You can literally hear the choir seeing, hallelujah!

No better feeling than having baby soft and CLEAR skin. Your smile is a little brighter and confidence is through the roof! No. better. feeling.

Then, comes the thoughts of worry. You begin to feel worrisome because you’re thinking, “Well, how long will this last until I have to scrub my skin off (mistake #1) to get this amazing, beautiful skin back?!” We all have the same thoughts. Good news!! Use these tips to KEEP your skin flawless all year long:

Skin Care Secrets You NEED To KnowSTART CHUGGING THAT H2O! Water is the most essential part of your skin care regimen. Your body is made up of 50-65% water; therefore, keep it hydrated. You want to drink half of your body weight in ounces of water throughout the day. Think of it this way: face cleansers and scrubs clean your pores on the outside, but water cleans your skin from the inside. If you stick to water for a few days, rather than sugary drinks, you’ll notice a big difference in your skin’s complexion. If you struggle with drinking water, try incorporating more fruit that is made up of almost all water. For example, various types of melons are great for this purpose!

WASH MORNING AND NIGHT! I know, it can be bothersome to wash your face twice a day. At night, we get lazy and just wipe it all off with a makeup remover wipe and think we’re done. WRONG! Make it a habit to cleanse your face as soon as you wake up and right before you go to bed. Challenge yourself to do it every morning and night for a whole month! People do it all the time for fitness purposes, so we’re going to mix it a bit and try using the same idea for our skin! Stick to your cleansing, exfoliating, and hydrating routine for a whole month. Then, after seeing your results, you won’t complain about it anymore!

EAT THESE FOODS! Natasha Burton’s article in www.stylecaster.com, lists the 7 Foods That Clear Your Complexion. Again, cleansers and scrubs take care of your skin from the outside, but what you put into your body also matters if you want clear skin. Try to cut back on junk food and focus on putting more vegetables and fruits into your body. Not only will your skin look fabulous, you could potentially lose a few inches off your waistline too! Win, Win!

Skin Care Secrets You NEED To Know USE THESE PRODUCTS! I have come A LONG way from my terrible acne days back in middle school, so I have tried A LOT of products. Some have made it worse, and some are holy-grails that I will share. My favorite, favorite skincare line is from Bioelements. Our trained artists use this award-winning skin care line in our day spa, too! Our artists identify your skin type, needs for your specific skin type, and customize your facial based on those needs using our patented Bioelements Lab. Treat yourself to a spa day and even bring a friend! Sign up for our newsletter and receive 10% off your first service! Check out our Menu of Services here.

Another favorite product that I simply CAN’T LIVE WITHOUT is the Lancome Energie De Vie The Cleansing Oil. First, I use a makeup remover wipe and then I pour a tiny bit of this into my hand and use it to remove any remaining makeup. If you have oily skin (like I do), do not be afraid of this product! It’s so weightless and leaves your skin baby smooth.

It’s important to use a detoxifying pore mask at least once a week. My personal favorite is the Clarisonic Deep Pore Detoxifying Clay Mask.  Let me tell you, when I skip out on this product for a few weeks, my skin takes a major toll! I have committed to using this 1-2 times a week to keep my skin free from break-outs and it does an amazing job at shrinking my pores.

PROTECT YOUR SKIN FOR THE FUTURE! Although the sun does provide us with Vitamin D, the sun is not our friend! Your natural beauty can’t be beat, so learn to love your skin’s natural pigmentation. If you insist on being a sun-kissed goddess, use a good quality fake tan! Loving tan is an absolute favorite!! My favorite color is the Ultra Dark. It gives beautiful color payoff and has a natural olive undertone…so you don’t look orange! Not only will you save your skin from dangerous damage now, but you’ll look so much more youthful in your 40’s-50’s! Instead of lathering up in SPF 5 tanning oil, saturate your skin with it’s new BFF…sunscreen that BLOCKS those harmful UV rays!! Your skin will thank you!

You CAN have flawless skin. It’s just a few committed steps away. Share some of your favorite skin care products with us on Facebook! We would love to see! 🙂

Eyeshadow Looks To Make Your Eyes POP!

Our eyes are the windows to our souls…or so I’ve heard. There is a little bit of a science when it comes to makeup. The good news is, that you can learn almost anything in the makeup world with enough practice…and patience.

If you have a hawt date or special event to go to and you really want to steal the show, I am going to walk you through some eyeshadow looks that will make your eyes POP. If you have green, blue, or brown eyes, take notes.

Eyeshadow Looks To Make Your Eyes POP

Eyeshadow Looks To Make Your Eyes POPStep forward, green-eyed gals!! When it comes to really making your eyes POP, you have to go back to the basics, especially when it comes to green eyes. Have you ever worn something purple and noticed how your green eyes look like big, beautiful emeralds? Colors that have red undertones really compliment green eyes. Whelan says it best in Catherine Devine’s article in Allure titled, “The 6 Most Gorgeous Makeup Colors for Green Eyes.” Whelan says, “Green’s complementary color is red, so any shadow with red undertones really makes green eyes pop.” An amazing palette for emerald eyes is the L’INTEMPOREL DE CHANEL eyeshadow palette. The grey tones in this palette also serve as a compliment to the purple. It intensifies the look even more, and no one will be able to take their eyes off of YOURS with this perfect palette! It’s def
worth the splurge 😉

Well, I am about to blow your mind…she designed her own eye contour quads!!!! Seriously, they are breathtaking! The best part is that all four of them are tailored to eye colors: green, blue, brown, and one quad that can suit anyone no matter their eye color. How awesome?! So, in this case, I recommend the Eye Contour Quad in Rust for all you blue-eyed gals. 🙂 Get your hands on it like soon!!!

Preparation and Beauty Tips For Your Next Interview

It’s the day. The day that a new chapter is going to start. A new door has opened. It’s time to walk into the job interview that you have been SO nervous, yet excited for. What does your outfit look like? Are you wearing your bright red lipstick that you love? Did you spray a couple of sprits of that new Chanel perfume that you just bought Preparation & Beauty Tips For Your Next Interviewbecause it was the perfect spring/refreshing scent? Well, there’s a little bit of a rule book when it comes to your appearance during a job interview. I’ll give you some of my best tips on how to prepare for the interview, as well as, look naturally beautiful for it!

Let’s start with the interview…

One of my best pieces of advice that I can give you is to do tons of research on your new potential employer. As you’re doing your research, write it all down. For two
reasons: it the midst of a phone interview, you can have your notes sprawled out in front of you (which is definitely helpful) and you remember pieces of information better when you read and write it down. You will impress the interviewer with all of your knowledge of the company and it will show that you are serious about the position.

With that being said, do some research on the interviewer, too. If you know who is going to be conducting the interview, look them up on LinkedIn. Put a face with a name. Look at their work history. It may even be similar to yours. This is important because you might be able to find a commonality that can spark a connection. It’ll help you feel less nervous because you’re getting to know a little bit about them and this will also help with generating your very own questions at the end of the interview such as, “What has been your favorite part about your career here at____? What was the most challenging hurdle you came across while working that charity event last year?”

Tailor your resume to the job posting. Analyze the job posting. Do you notice key words being used? Use them in your resume as skills that you possess (IF you truly possess them!) You also want to include them in your cover letter. This will help you stand out from the crowd and make you look like an even better fit for the available position. REMEMBER, do not falsify information.

Now for the beauty tips…

Keep it natural. If you like a smoky eye everyday, go for more of a cut crease eye look. Start with a base. My all-time favorite is Urban Decay Primer Potion. Your eye shadow will STAY IN PLACE ALL DAY! Just try to use neutral eye shadows to create a natural look. This isn’t a time to show them your best smoky eye. Keep it natural and professional. MakeupByAlli nails it in this tutorial:

If you’re not sure on what to do about your hair, this is my advice: the simpler, the better. Keep it straight or out of your face, entirely. That way, you’re not tempted to play with it or have to keep brushing it out of your eyes. OR wrap your hair in a cute slightly messy/polished/ bun at the nape of your neck.

33 Fashionable Work and Interview Outfits for Women- The Fashion Funda

Now, for the outfit…you can’t go wrong with a good pencil skirt. I absolutely love this look! The blue is just enough color, so you’re not covered in black. The blue and the grey is the perfect combo. Ooh, and the cognac belt….OBSESSED! And the best part is that all four pieces of this outfit are staples and should be a part of your capsule wardrobe. 🙂

The bottom line is trust your gut and stay calm. The more research you do, the better. You will be able to tie back your answers to the company or if they ask you about the company, you can show them that you’re also an expert of company XYZ. Don’t forget to ask detail questions at the end. Interviewers always look for that. For example ask, “What will a typical work day look like for me? How do you measure success in this position? What is your favorite part about working for XYZ?” **Be sure to pay close attention during the interview, so that you don’t ask a question that has already been answered.

Always, always have an extra printed copy of your resume on hand. Smile and sit up straight. Posture is another huge determining factor in the interview process.
