Summer is coming to an end and school is about to be back in full swing (unless you’re a cosmetology student!). Instead of being sad about saying goodbye to summer, take some initiative and make a list of things to accomplish before things get too crazy!
We’ve got 4 different things to do in the Dayton area before summer ends! So take note and let’s gooooo!
Hike through the county’s largest old-growth forest
If you want to get out and experience nature in, literally, the most natural way possible, then you’ve got to get out to Germantown and hike these trails!! Germantown MetroPark contains the largest tract of old-growth forest in all of Montgomery County and is like a walk back in the past! You can also check out the animals they have at the Nature Center!
Make sure you put some bug spray on before you go, just to be safe!! Oh, and don’t worry about being too hot, all of the trails are almost 100% shaded!
Go see The Fountain of Lights at RiverScape MetroPark
“One of the largest in the entire world, the fountain will operate daily through Labor Day, running 8 minutes each hour and coming on 4 minutes before the top of the hour. The fountain will operate from 6:56 a.m. to 9:54 p.m.” (Dayton.com)
You only have about a month left, so make sure you catch this beautiful site downtown!!
“One of the best rooms in the museum is definitely the Children’s Room. There are games and other fun ways to learn about peaceful resolution of arguments and encourage an interest in cultural diversity. There’s even a kid-sized guitar and other instruments for kids to make some noise.
The lending library is a great place to find tons of resources on peace. It has cozy couches and chairs, allowing you to comfortably curl up with a book.”
This would be great for a rainy, summer day!! (Or a HOT one!)

Obviously, when it comes to the sun, we know we need to keep our skin safe and lather up in the sunscreen. We wear sunglasses to protect our eyes (or really just to look good and hide our no makeup, pool faces LOL) and drink lots of water to stay hydrated!
We KNOW we need to take these precautions for our skin, eyes and body….but what about our hair?!
Yes, the sun DOES have a HUUUUGE effect. Did you know that sweat and dust contributed by the summer heat increases hair problems like dandruff, split ends, frizziness and increased hair fall?!
The sun also shows NO MERCY by it’s crazy heat and just totally dries your hair out! Therefore, if you like to blow dry, curl or straighten your hair, summer is going to be a really damaging few months for you and your hair! Summer can also be harsh on your scalp! It causes dryness and, if you’re not careful, sunburn! Hair does NOT protect your scalp and dry scalp brings its own set of problems and may end up damaging your hair roots. Ain’t nobody got time for that!
It’s time to start protecting your gorgeous locks from sun’s harmful rays, sweat, humidity and of course, chlorinated water!
So the question is, HOW do you protect your hair this summer? Here are 5 tips to help you out!! >>>>
For the pool or sea rats out there: Put on a leave-in conditioner first before diving in to the pool. Also, right after you get out of the pool, wash your hair immediately with shampoo and conditioner. That will do the trick!
Same goes when you dive in to the sea! The salt in the sea will tangle up your hair pretty badly. It roughs up the hair and causes your strands to stick together. Same solution goes here, too. Wash away the salt in your hair with a moisturizing shampoo and conditioner.
Matrix has many AMAZING leave-in conditioners and you can find them right here in Creative Images (:
LET YOUR HAIR DRY BEFORE COMBING IT OUT
Brushing or combing your hair when it’s wet can be SUPER damaging, especially coming from pool or ocean water. Our hair is at it’s weakest state when it’s wet, so just wash it first if you can, THEN untangle! It’s also better if you can let your locks air dry before combing them out, too!
WHERE A BIG, FLOPPY HAT
That gorgeous summer floppy hat is there for a reason. It protects your face, AS WELL AS you hair from the harmful rays of the sun. The sun can greatly damage and might dry ’em up for a long time.
The adorable floppy hat to the left is only $16.99 and there are a ton of different colors you can choose from!!
PUT SUNSCREEN IN YOUR HAIR???
If it’s okay with you to be a little greasy, go ahead and put some sunscreen in your hair! Don’t worry, you can always wash it out once your done with your day! And who’s really going to say something anyways…it’s not like we do our hair to go swimming, am I right?! The sunscreen will work double time, protecting your hair AND your scalp! So get on it (:
DRINK WATER & EAT HEALTHY
Check out this video by beautyklove as she explains why your water intake is SO important for you and your hair! She’s also going to show you how to make lemon water, which has benefits for your hair, skin AND body!!
Don’t forget to eat healthy as well. Dark green veggies are especially good for your hair and skin! EAT UP!!

For some odd reason (one reason for which we are all so totally thankful for), salon stylists LOVE to wear black and pretty much ONLY wear black.
The only thing that matters is that stylists are SO lucky that they get to have an entire wardrobe of ALL BLACK EVERYTHING! And guess what, EVERYONE looks good in black! If you ask me, this is 100% a perk of becoming a cosmetologist!
Now you may be thinking that wearing all black could get boring…and you can definitely make it that way. But why not have some fun with it! Check out this video from Sydne Summer showing you a couple different ALL BLACK outfits that you can wear on the daily:
Her outfit choices are definitely for the fashion crazy gal. But what if you’re a little more casual? These are some of my favorite outfit choices for beauty school and working in the salon:
My favorite trick is to add a tiny (JUST A TINY) pop of color to keep things interesting! Whether that be your shoes, a scarf, your jewelry, some colorful tights or even you HAIR! You can also pair different fabrics with each other to add a little more dimension. For example: A black cotton t-shirt with leather pants or leggings and some black suede booties! How adorbz would that be?!
There are also many graphic tee’s out there that you can use to add a little spice to your all black outfit! There’s a lot of salon specific sayings on tee’s as well! Just look em up on Etsy (;
Let’s move on to the guys; because they can have fun with their ALL BLACK salon outfits, too!
Check out this video by NocturnalFashion on different “high fashion” ways for guys to style themselves in black outfits:
Sooooooo many great way to spice up your men’s fashion for the salon! And you really only have to buy a few pieces of clothing so you can just mix & match all week! AWESOME.
Thanks for checking out our ALL BLACK EVERYTHING salon fashion info and I hope I gave you some ideas on your salon styles (; HAPPY BEAUTIFYING!

We’re seeing A LOT of funky hair colors all over the internet these days. Some are a little crazy, but others are like, “Hm, yeah, I could maybe pull that off!”
What are these unusual, fun but natural-ish hair colors you ask? Well obviously I’m going to tell you …. SOON.
Before I get into it though…I’d like to play a little “Guess which picture my mom liked,” game. LOL. Yes, I said it. But for real though!! I know some people have the “cool” moms who are like, “It’s your hair, do what you what!” (Which is totally how I will be when I’m a mom, duh!) But my mother, Karen (this is what I call her)……oh no she is not like that! Karen literally gets scared when I have a hair appointment…like, “What are you doing this time?” – “You’re not going to do the thing you did last time, right?” – “You better not put purple in your hair or something.”
COME ON, KAREN!
I am 24 years old gosh darn it, if I want purple hair, by golly I can have purple hair! Who’s with me?!
PLOT TWIST >
So I’m all over Pinterest, trying to find that perfect hair color for my next hair appointment. For some reason, I’m showing my mom these crazy colors that I’m dying to get, and she throws down every single pic I show her – except one……
So NOW I must show you these wonderful, unusual hair colors (that even your mom would like) and I want you to guess which one Karen was like, “Oh wow, yeah, I like that!”
1. ROSE GOLD
The most popular version of this color I see on the internet is Guy Tang‘s version of Rose Gold. He creates such a warm, golden tone with just a hint of rosy pink. I don’t know how he does it, but it’s quite amazing if you ask me.
Now, if you’d like it to be a little more rosy, you may want to start with a lighter blonde color and obviously use a different concoction.
Maybe you want it a little LESS rosy? You can change up this color however you want to make it your own.
I think Guy Tang’s version is a perfect mix of Rose and Gold, for sure.
To achieve this color, you’ll most likely need to be a natural blonde or get your hair to a lighter level so you can get the full effect. This may take time depending on how dark your hair is, but I think the wait would be 100% WORTH IT!
This color is literally AMAZING. Honestly, how natural does this look?!
Ok, maybe not natural, but with a shadow root into a subtle teal color, how can you pass this up?
Now achieving this teal color is just like achieving any other unusual color – chances are, you’re going to have to bleach your hair (depending on your natural color) before going for this look. Make sure you condition your hair weeks before your hair appointment AND take your hair washing down to a minimum. In other words, get real familiar with dry shampoo!
This beautiful concoction and style was created by @hairbyshawna_russell and I grabbed this photo from Instagram.
So if you’re ready to try that new color, what’s stopping you from going for this?!
3. GREY HAIR, DON’T CARE
No no no you don’t have to be an old lady to have grey hair!!!! That is so 2014! It’s a new day and age and you know what, WE FREAKING LOVE GREY HAIR!!! Now all the older women out there are like, “HALLELUJAH!!!”
JK, they’re all still thinking they need to cover up those beautiful silver pieces! But hey moms out there!!!! Stop it!! It’s beautiful and honestly, we’re all a little jealous.
Taking your hair to a beautiful, silver grey color can be very hard if you’re coming from a darker hair color. It’s going to be a process, just as any other fun color.
We’ve talked about blue’s and grey’s, but what if we add them together?!
This color has got to be my favorite.
It was achieved by using Matrix new Watercolors! FANTASTIC!
Mixing these hues may seem a little scary, but as long as you have a sort of grey undertone, instead of super bright purple or blue colors, it is bound to look as beautifully natural as the pic to the left!
And guess what?! You’re in luck! Here at Creative Images, we LOVE using Matrix hair colors! So get in here and make your appointment with one of our super talented artists today (:
SO – which hair color do you think mama Karen liked the most? 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5.
YUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUP, you got it!!!!! #5 people! Can you believe that?! The hair color with the most unusual colors and Karen actually liked it!
So I think I’m going to do it at my appointment this week with Caity at the Vandalia campus salon! Stay tuned for before and after pics!! I’m so so so so excited!
