Thick and bold brows are a trend that has taken over the makeup world the past year. One literally cannot go out of the house these days without having their brows filled (at least I can’t!).
The 90’s infamous thin brows that became the victim of over plucking and waxing has faded away; and I am personally so happy about that one. Embracing your natural eyebrow thickness is how it SHOULD be!
You might be wondering what made this style change. Well, thicker or bold eyebrows give your face a fresher, bright eyed and younger look. But, as with all styles and trends, when has thick eyebrows gotten a little thick? Where is the line that separates Cara Delevingne and Lucy Hale from a caterpillar?
Here’s how to make your brows bold & beautiful without overdoing it:
The first thing that you should do is find the right eyebrow shape for your face. Head to a salon where a professional can help you figure out which is best for you, and they will also shape them for you. There are even apps that can give you an idea of what would possibly suit you! (technology these days!)
Next, while you are growing out your eyebrows or needing to touch them up, its best to leave major shaping to professionals to avoid any mistakes. Only pluck on the outside of your eyebrow shape and make sure to keep them clean. If you go too long between waxes or plucks, your eyebrows will take on a life of their own and begin to grow in places that you won’t want them to.
There are a lot of eyebrow products that promise to give you the best bold brow of your life; but be careful not to get caught up in the hype. When you think about all of the brow pencils, powders, pomades, and gels, it can be easy to over do it. Keep your brow routine simple and find the products that give your brows the best shape without looking overdone.

In order to keep your brows in the best shape and looking clean, try to get them plucked, threaded, or waxed between every month or month and a half. This is best to keep your shape looking clean and allow your brows to stay the way that you want them!
If you want to pull off the bold eyebrow look but your eyebrows are naturally thin, you want to fill them in as naturally as possible. Make sure that you are using the right shadow or pencil to start off with. Picking a brow color that is as close to your hair color is usually the rule of thumb. You don’t want to make yourself look like a completely different person – that’s not the goal.
Now that you know how to properly achieve bold brows, how do you know when your brows are too bold? If your brows are a darker, uniform shade that is two to three sizes larger than your natural brow shape, then you know you’ve gone a little too far. Also, don’t fill the entire brow in with a wax or pencil product. This will leave you with an unrealistic brow that no one wants. Stick with a more natural approach to filling in your brows to achieve the bold brow look.
Working in the beauty industry is a great career choice for many. But attending cosmetology school takes consideration, dedication, and a time commitment. Interested in going to beauty school? Here are some things to know before your first day of classes.
There are many different cosmetology programs to choose from and specialize in. There are different beauty schools for different interests. Depending on what you would like to study, there are nail classes, certifications in hair styling, and esthetician programs for those looking to specialize in skin care programs. Whatever you are interested in, there will be a class for you.
Know your career options. Before you go to beauty school, it is important to completely understand your career possibilities after you graduate. Considering the number of different cosmetology programs on offer, it can seem overwhelming to choose off the bat. Many schools offer career counseling and will allow you to take classes you are interested in before you make your decision.
There are strict requirements to adhere to. Different states have different licensing requirements, but the majority of schools require at least 1000 hours. It is also important to remember that beauty school is a school, so tardiness and absenteeism will not be tolerated.
You may not get your dream job right away. Everyone needs to start somewhere, so do not be deterred if you do not get your dream job in a dream salon right after graduation. Practice makes perfect, and it is important to build your clientele from the ground up.
You can be self-employed, and beauty school will teach you how. A full 35% of hairdressers, hairstylists, and cosmetologists are self-employed, and if this your dream, then you are able to enroll in business classes to learn how to run a business.
Expect hands-on learning. All of your cosmetology programs will require you to get your hands into the thick of it. You will be asked to give a facial, cut hair, and perform a pedicure almost as soon as you step into the classroom. This can be a change if you are used to learning via presentations and notes. Don’t forget that you will be practicing on real people as well!
Beauty school is a great option for all creative minds. Do you think cosmetology school is for you? Contact Creative Images today!
If you’re one of those people who don’t really like dressing up all that much, raise your hand!
We can all appreciate the times where we can really look nice, do our hair and get our makeup game going strong. But sometimes (85% of the time for me) you want to be casual and comfortable. So I’m going to try and cover a few different ways we can be casual, but still be trendy at the same time!
I think the most important aspect of being the three C’s (cute, casual, comfortable…made that up just now) is our outfit choices. For me, I LOVE a tshirt dress, converse and maybe a plaid shirt wrapped around the waist or choker necklace to spice it up a bit. Something like this is 100% my casual, trendy style choice:
This style is super adorable, while sticking with a casual, even lazy kind of vibe.
Now, if we head over to men’s style, I just want to cover something really quick: Has anyone noticed the lumbersexual trend that has been going on for over a year now?
I’m not kidding, this is a real thing.
If you’re wondering what this term means, here’s what I found: “Lumbersexual is fundamentally a bearded hipster with a penchant for plaid, tattoos and cold brew — both coffee and beer.” But hey, in all honesty, this is the perfect reason to dress casual and trendy at the same time, don’t you think?
Check out these celebs that have perfected this look:
Yes, yes and yes.
Let’s switch scenes and talk about casual, trendy hairstyles for fall. LADIES FIRST!
So, I am one of those girls who can’t go an entire night without putting my hair up because I just get too hot! Even if I spent an hour on my hair, it’s probably going up at some point throughout the night.
I’ve learned to start trying new ways to put my hair up in the beginning of the night, so it won’t look super messy later. And I’m not necessarily saying messy is a bad thing, but there’s a difference between good messy and messy messy.
This girl knows exactly what I’m talking about:
Mk, ladies, we are set.
When it comes to men’s casual hairstyles, I think we can all agree that it’s probably quite simple. If you have natural curly hair, just put a tiny bit of gel or cream throughout so it’s not too fuzzy, but let it do it’s own thing.
Many guys have the comb-over going on these days, so it’s hard NOT to put a little styling gel, cream or wax in to keep the top part of your hair going in the right direction, even if you are just having a super chill day.
But really, no matter what kind of hair your trying to rock, on casual days, you can almost just let it go!
Ok guys & gals, it’s time for my last casual beauty trend section, makeup.
If you are OK with being a minimalist some days, it’s fine to go without makeup!! I always add at least some mascara and a neutral lip color, but other than that, you are beautiful without all of that extra stuff!
The great thing with makeup these days, though, is that you can still look very natural. You may think that is contradicting, but it is actually SO clever…I’m telling you that you can wear makeup, but make it LOOK like you’re NOT wearing makeup. And I think that is like the best thing ever.
Amanda Seyfried is the perfect example of using nude palettes to achieve a very natural look. If you’re loving her lip color, you need to read last week’s blog, “6 Matte Lip Colors for Fall.” Matte lipstick is the perfect way to add a little “umph” to your casual look.
Another way to emphasize you’re natural features, it’s never a bad idea to use a matte contour kit. (; Contouring can do so many wonders in this world!
Also, instead of using a black eyeliner, try using a brown color – or even switch out the eyeliner for a darker nude shade of eye shadow. This can give a very nice, dreamy effect.
For the bulk of your eyes, use nude colors with touch of metallic shine. Check out this gorgeous neutral eye shadow palette from Youngblood Mineral Cosmetics:
We carry many YBMC’s in the salon, so stop by to see if we have an eye palette that fits your skin!
By combining all of these casual fall beauty trends, it will be easy for you to put together that effortless look to go out with friends on the weekends, to just go see a movie or even attend a bonfire on a cool, fall night.

You can never go wrong with matte lipstick. No matter the color, it always seems to look flawless. But when you rock the right color for YOU, it can make all the difference…
We use the awesome cosmetic brand, Youngblood Mineral Cosmetics, whom released some matte lip colors a little while ago that are absolutely perfect to wear for fall! Let’s take a look!
“@apotheca_beauty swatched our Intimatte Mineral Matte Lipsticks From left to right: “Vain”, “Vamp”, “Secret”, “Vanity”, “Boudoir”, and “Ooh La La” -Youngblood Mineral Cosmetics Instagram account.
Let’s talk about the darker side of these matte lipsticks: Vain & Vamp.
If you have olive toned skin or dark skin, these colors will work great for you. You always want to use a lip color that will compliment your skin tone.
If you have dark skin & you want to try a nude color, we suggest to go with a more golden nude! On the other hand, olive skin ladies out there, you can pull off pretty much any nude lip color, as well as the dark matte colors! Lucky you! Secret, the third shade from the left, would look great on you! If you have medium toned skin, you can rock Secret as well with no problem at all!
Take a look at all three colors on three different skin tones:

Now, for the medium to fair skin tones, let’s take a look at the last three matte lip colors: Vanity, Boudoir, and Ooh La La!
Y’all can rock these whenever you want & always look flawless. The lighter matte lipsticks are actually the hardest to pull off! It looks a little funky when your skin is darker than your lipstick – but hey, some people can totally pull it off!
Ooh La La is one of those harder shades to pull off – but look how gorgeous it can look if you do it right:
If you have darker skin, but still want to rock a lighter, peachy shade, don’t give up hope just yet! I have a tip for you!!
Use a darker lip liner to outline your lips and also a darker nude lip shade to use on the outer parts of your lips (or a nude color that is closely matched to your skin color). Then take one of the lighter shade above (Vanity, Boudoir or Ooh La La) & put it towards the inside of your lips and blend to the outside. You should come out with a look similar to this beautiful lady:
If you want to try out any of these colors, come into the salon to see if we have these shades readily available for you! You can order them from us as well (:
WE LOVE YOUNGBLOOD MINERAL COSMETICS & you should too!
