Making the Most of the Holidays at Your Salon or Spa
The holiday season is a joyous time, but it can also be a high stress one. Whether you’re running a small salon or a large spa, these suggestions will help you boost festive feelings for the holidays as well as profits. All while keeping your employees cheerful and relaxed.
Decorate for the Season.
A festively embellished salon or spa will trigger a holiday mood in guests and employees alike. Consider stringing twinkle lights liberally to add sparkle and a dash of modern. Design a merry window display to attract holiday shoppers, and get your staff involved in decorating their stations. Finally, don’t forget the music! Liberally mix holiday classics into your salon’s usual playlist to evoke warm memories.
Create Holiday Service Packages.
From ‘getting party ready’ to ‘relaxing and destressing,’ there are many holiday-related themes you can build packages upon. You don’t even have to discount them; just bundle together a few services that naturally go together and throw in a travel-size product to add value. Don’t forget a package for your male clients, and make sure you have options at a variety of price points. The more options, the merrier!
Offer Express Services for the Holidays.
The holidays are generally busy for everyone including your regular salon guests. Consider offering a few holiday-themed express services to encourage them to squeeze a visit in between all their other festive commitments. Blowouts, quick makeup applications, and wash and style services are likely to be popular options.
Reward Loyal Clients.
Provide your employees with a budget they can use to reward their best clients. A small token of appreciation, like a salon gift card, can boost client retention and encourage faster rebooking.
Holidays = Gift Card Season.
Statistics show that 65 percent of gift card holders end up spending 38 percent beyond the price of the card. These days, a gift card is just as acceptable as a physical gift, so encourage your salon and spa visitors to purchase them for loved ones. You’ll save them shopping time and boost your bottom line.
Offer Pre-wrapped Product Bundles.
Another great way to save clients time is to offer gift-wrapped product bundles for purchase. Display wrapped packages next to the unwrapped items they contain to make selection easy. Bonus: the wrapped gifts also function as holiday décor!
Ring in Some Stocking Stuffers.
Travel and trial size products make perfect stocking fillers, so display them as such. Things like nail polish, body scrubs, and hair masks all make for great last minute steals and stuffer and placing them near your registers helps clients buy on an impulse.
Host a Competition.
Most salons and spas are booked solid around the holidays. To increase profits year-over-year, you need to boost the average spend per visit, maximize retail sales, and book clients out into the slower new year months. Organizing a friendly competition for your staff can encourage them to focus on these initiatives.
Praise Your Staff
With all of the hustle and bustle that come with the holidays, don’t forget to take some time and show some appreciation for your staff. After all, you couldn’t do any of this without them! While post-holiday celebrations can be fun, why not sprinkle a few appreciation events throughout the season to keep everyone’s spirits high? Consider hosting a company holiday party for coworkers to mix and jingle, offering an order-in lunch, or even organizing a fun little gift exchange. Remember, you don’t need to do anything too grand; just something small and meaningful to show your appreciation for your team.
