Creative Images Institute of Cosmetology (CIIC) is pleased to announce that our school signed and returned to the U.S. Department of Education (Department), a Certification and Agreement that our school has used, or intends to use, no less than 50 percent of the funds received under the CARES Act, Higher Education Economic Relief Fund (HEERF) to provide Emergency Financial Aid Grants to students. The total amount of funds our school has received from the Department pursuant to our school’s Certification and Agreement is $692,021.
We are excited to announce the total amount of Emergency Student Grants distributed to our students as of the date of this submission is $156,423.
CIIC is providing financial stimulus support to enrolled, eligible students with concentrated efforts toward those with the greatest need, while attempting to widely distribute relief due to the COVID-19 pandemic. With that being said, the estimated total number of students at our school eligible to receive Emergency Student Grants under the HEERF program is 133.
The total number of students who have received an Emergency Student Grant under the HEERF program to date is 87, as of May 12, 2020.
The method(s) used by our school to determine which students receive Emergency Student Grants and how much they would receive under the HEERF Student Grant allocation is as follows:
Student Prioritizing of Need
1. CIIC calculated through the use of a Formula Approach to prioritizing need.
a. Enrolled students impacted by the pandemic were divided into two separate groups.
1) Receiving Title IV (aid)
2) Not in receipt of aid, but enrolled in a Title IV eligible program
b. Each group represented a percentage (%) of the enrolled student population and that percentage
was used to calculate the amount of HEERF to be applied in the portion (50%) to students.
1) Each percentage was applied to the total HEERF Grant awarded for student assistance.
2. Receiving Aid Calculations
a. Each student receiving aid had the amount ($) of their total aid package (numerator in formula) divided by the total aid (the 2019 total net aid received by CIIC in Federal Pell Grant and Federal Student Loans, as that amount was already known). The individual student percentages were applied to the total amount of fund monies referred to in1b.1) above. The resulting amount represented each student’s portion of the HEERF Grant to students.
3. Not in Receipt of Aid Calculations
a. For these students, we requested they complete a FAFSA to determine their eligibility for Title IV aid.
b. For students who completed a FAFSA and aid eligibility was determined, their award was determined by dividing their potential, total aid package by the total aid (see 2a above). The individual student percentages were applied to the total amount of fund monies referred to in 1b.1) above. The resulting amount represented each student’s portion of the HEERF Grant to students.
We have provided guidance to our students concerning the Emergency Student Grant funds they received that they are to use it for their expenses related to the disruption of our school operations due to coronavirus, such as food, housing, course materials, technology, health care, and child-care.
