On September 17, 1787, the U.S. Constitution was signed in Philadelphia, laying the foundation for our country’s government and freedoms. Each year, Constitution Day gives us an opportunity to reflect on the importance of this historic document and its impact on the lives we lead today. At Creative Images Institute of Cosmetology, our Cosmetology, Esthetics, and Nail Technology students joined in the celebration by connecting history to their craft.
To honor the time period, students researched colonial beauty trends and recreated styles that would have been seen in late 18th-century America. Cosmetology students experimented with high-volume hairstyles, soft curls, and decorative touches inspired by powdered wigs and colonial fashion. Esthetics students highlighted the beauty routines of the era, focusing on pale complexions, natural rouge, and minimalistic makeup techniques that reflected the ideals of refinement and status at the time. Nail Technology students brought their own artistry to the project, exploring detailed nail artwork that celebrated the colonial times.
This creative activity not only gave students a chance to practice technical skills but also encouraged them to think about how beauty and culture intersect across history. Just as the Constitution shaped the framework of our nation, beauty practices of the era reflected social values, class distinctions, and evolving cultural identity.
By blending history with hands-on practice, our students were able to celebrate Constitution Day in a unique way—honoring the past while building skills that prepare them for the future of the beauty industry.
